Welcome to the official homepage of Civil Air Patrol’s Mount Vernon Composite Squadron. Our squadron is one of six in the National Capital Wing. We are designated a composite squadron because we have both cadets and senior members.
Currently, we have approximately 80 active cadets and senior members. Senior members make up about a half of the squadron. Many are pilots or mission specialists supporting CAP search and rescue operations and special missions for the U.S. Air Force.
Cadet programs offer a range of opportunities for young men and women. Foundational to the experience is an emphasis on character, leadership, and aerospace education. Cadets receive instruction about Air Force style drill, customs and courtesies and have weekend activities that involve rocketry, emergency services training, and orientation flights in CAP aircraft.
Our squadron commander is Lt. Col. Lou Volchansky. To email the commander click here, or call 571-882-2435.
Our deputy commander for cadets is Lt. Col. Brian Porter. To email Lt. Col. Porter click here.
Our meetings are held at Davison Army Airfield, Va. For directions click here.
Senior members meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 7pm.
Cadets meet every Thursday evening at 7pm.
Important Note: Beginning July 1, 2015, a DOD I.D. card became required for base access. Please contact one of the individuals above for assistance on gaining base access if you do not have a DOD I.D card. Already a member? A CAP I.D. alone is insufficient, so please work with squadron leadership to obtain a base visitor pass.
